How to Block X (Twitter) on Your Child’s Phone
Yes. On iPhone, Screen Time can stop the X app being installed or opened; on Android, Family Link or equivalent supervision can do the same. Device-level DNS filtering can block many X- and Twitter-related lookups so the app, x.com and twitter.com do not load normally. Blocking X does not show you whose posts were viewed. Combine app restrictions with DNS, then test a browser as well as the app.
Parents still search for Twitter even though the product is branded X. On a child’s phone the old icon, the new icon, a browser bookmark, and a shared login can all be the same firehose. The useful rule is about whether this handset can reach that firehose, not about reconstructing a timeline. DNS filtering and Screen Time can close doors. They cannot narrate what was read during a gap, and they cannot promise that a VPN already on the phone will never connect.
X, twitter.com, and leftover app names
The official app may be labelled X while a child still types twitter.com. Both are clients. A block that only hides one icon often leaves the other path working. After setup, test the app, x.com, and twitter.com.
An account can be created quickly. Blocking this phone does not stop a new handle on a laptop. If the family rule is about the child, include other screens in the same conversation rather than treating a successful iPhone test as the whole story.
Use Screen Time or Family Link for the app
On iPhone and iPad, Screen Time can require a parent for downloads, limit the X app, and lock the passcode. Notification previews can still show post text on the lock screen; turn those off if snippets are part of the concern.
On Android, Family Link can manage Play Store installs. Check for a cloned app or a second user. X is a small download and is easy to sneak into an extra space that never saw the original restriction.
A time limit is enough when X is allowed in short windows. A DNS block is the right tool when this phone should not reach X at all.
Add DNS filtering for the websites and leftover app traffic
X still depends on domain-name lookups. Device-level DNS filtering can refuse those lookups so the installed app degrades and the websites fail in a browser, including on cellular when the phone itself uses the filtered resolver.

If X loads again
Test the app and both websites on mobile data. Check Screen Time or Family Link, DNS or Private DNS, a VPN, and other devices using the same account.
A protection-gap alert is not a list of whose posts were opened. It is a prompt to verify that filtering is still present.
